Program Objectives, Contents and Components


The Purpose Of This Program Is To:

• Understand how to effectively utilize recognition and rewards to help achieve the organizational goal and objectives

• Understand an organization does not have to spend large sums of money to have an effective recognition and reward program

• Suggest specific actions to increase the effectiveness of the organization’s recognition and reward program


Program Contents:

This program is designed to be preceded by the Focused Management Human Motivation program. It can be used as a stand alone unit and contains a brief review of the key human motivational factors. However it does assume the participants have a realistic view of human motivation.

The program reviews the basic types of recognitions and rewards such as honors, intrinsic motivation and increased responsibility.

The key criteria for evaluating a recognition and reward program are covered in detail. The key question “Are the recognitions and awards actually changing behavior?” is examined in detail.

A list of 12 questions on the topic are provided and can be used as discussion questions at the end of the presentation, utilized for breakout groups or set the stage for future meetings on the topics.

Program Format:

This program is a lecture/discussion of approximately 1 hour. The PowerPoint presentation and instructor scripts have built him in questions and opportunities for audience participation. There is a list of 12 questions that can be used to stimulate discussion at the end of the presentation.

The program is designed to make participants think and challenges some of the traditional assumptions concerning the effectiveness of “the employee of the month”, the assumption that money must somehow be involved in recognition and rewards, and the effectiveness of end of the year profit-sharing plans.

Program Components:

This program includes a PowerPoint presentation and presenter’s notes to provide approximately 1 hour of presentation and discussion. There are 26 PowerPoint slides and 26 pages of instructor scripts.

The written handout is eight pages and features a summary of the key points and 12 discussion questions. The handout is in two electronic formats, one in Microsoft Word and another in PDF. The Word copy is easy to change it can be modified to suit your needs. Page numbers are centered so it can be printed in a two-sided format.
