About Us

Our Role: Developers of effective programs to manage and lead organizations

Focused management, Inc. is a research and development organization dedicated to producing high-quality programs that lead to better management within organizations.

Mission/Goal: Better Management

Focused Management Programs are founded upon the belief that “better management” is possible if an organization defines a strategy in which the right people, processes, and systems are in place to execute the strategy. This management process is based on a proven Management Model. The Focused Management Leadership Strategy provides the foundation to successfully run any organization.

Vision: Easy Access

We will work toward a wide distribution of the Focused Management Leadership Strategy and supporting curriculum. We will license the Focused Management program to individuals and organizations interested in high quality management and leadership programs. We will price the Focused Management curriculum so that organizations can obtain high-quality leadership and management training at reasonable prices and independent consultants and trainers can more than recoup their investment on their very first class. Many of our programs are priced under $200.

The Need: Current leaders will soon retire!

60 million so-called “baby boomers” will retire in the next few years.
Where will the new leaders come from?

An interesting fact about the generations following the boomers is that the growing technical complexity of our society has led us to educate them as technical experts. Many of our technical two-year, four year and graduate-level programs are so packed full of specialized information that there is little room for courses in human behavior, leadership, communication, interpersonal relations, or training skills. In fact, many of these topics are assigned to “experts”.

This is not a criticism, only an observation. Those of us who grew up in an era of generalists must remember that the thundering masses of people behind us are specialists. But our current engineers, computer technicians, medical professionals, finance people, and other specialists will soon be expected to become broad organizational leaders.

MBA programs and other similar management training can build a solid foundation for developing senior management abilities. (Assuming one has the time and money to pursue this type of education.) But can current management development program answer these questions?

“How do I lead and manage an organization?”

“What ties all these subjects together so I can formulate a comprehensive strategy for leading an organization?”

“Why would people follow me?”

George M. Hill, a member of the World War II generation, watches the trend toward ever greater technical specialization with concern. Not with concern about people’s technical competence but rather with concern for what happens when thousands of technical specialists move up to the senior levels of organizations.

It is not hard to find numerous examples in business, government, or nonprofits where smart people with excellent track records moved up to senior positions and became spectacular failures. In some cases, the stockholders took a hit and in others whole organizations were destroyed.

George Hill created an organization called Focused Management Inc. to deal with the issue of developing successful organizational leaders. The result was the Focused Management Leadership Strategy and a comprehensive curriculum to develop organizational leadership and management skills.

Our goal is better management.

Focused Management is actively seeking partners to respond to this growing market.
